LED halogen replacement lights
Welcome to the great LED shoot out of 2004.
Take a bunch of LED's, a digital camera, a standard kitchen and see who "wins".
2nd November 2004. What you see is what you get.........
Update 17th June 2007. This page is making its way up Google, so its time to fess up that I totaly gooffed wen setting the exposure on the camera. Really, the LEDS are not as dark as the photos show. I set the exposure on the first photo, and fixed it there, hence all the rest are darker on the photos than they actuly are in the kitchen. My wife said that should would be happy with 3-4 of any of the first 4 LED replacements. This should speak volumes to you. Yes, I intend to redo the photos, but its about number 37 on my to-do list.
Ben has the "romantic" idea of using LED's in his next house, but how good are they, and how do they compare to a standard halogen? Google did not supply the usual answers, so he picked a few and here are the results.
We used a Olympus C5050 camera. It was set to manual white balance, manual exposure (1/2sec) and manual aperture (F2.6)
All LED's were run from a regulated 13.7v DC supply and the current drawn was measured with a digital multi-meter.
This is a 15w 240vAC compact fluro. (I know, its not an LED, but its a good starting point for what follows.)
