How to take control of the 'scope

30th December 2008 NEWS!
We have moved to America and got a house, so the allsky camera is back up and running, the scope is high up on the todo list.
Until then, you will not be able to switch to the telescope.

1st August 2005 NEWS FLASH!
The Java client is working! You can now use any java aware browser. Click here for the Telescope and allsky camera .

The other (and far better) way to take control of the telescope, is to download this small (164Kb) executable, and this small (1Kb) text file, save them into the SAME directory, and then run the executable. If you are running Linux, it will work with 'wine' just the same as with any version of Windows.

Once you run the little program, you will see a window that will allow you to connect with the telescope. It looks like this;

palantir window comet

To move the telescope, you have to click on "Control", if some one else has control of it, you will be told that you will take control in X seconds. Other wise that's it, you can drag the sliders and move the telescope around. Click on "Display" and then "xyz Readings" and that will show you roughly where the scope is pointing.

The zoom control is a little clunky at the moment, its best to click it up or down, dragging its slider will not work. mds and ben are working on it......

Please do not point the camera at the sun, its a sensitive LOW light camera, and looking at the sun will just burn it out. Its a fun free service, and its also bens main telescope, so play nice and it will stay free and fun! (ben is looking at getting a solar camera for the day, but its a little way off as yet).

Click on devices while you have control, and another little box will pop up, use this to switch between the Telescope and the AllSky camera.
